Bishop David R. Houston is the Presiding Prelate of the Texas Northeast Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and Pastor of the Smith Temple Church of God in Christ in Tyler, Texas. Bishop Houston is native of Tyler, Texas and a product of Tyler Independent School District. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Texas College, Tyler, Texas and Master of Education and Doctorate of Education from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. He also holds a Doctorate of Divinity from Texas College, Tyler, Texas. He has done additional studies at the University of Houston, Texas and Harvard School of Business Management.
Bishop Houston has served as a teacher and administrator in the San Angelo Public School and Fort Worth Public School Districts, Faculty member and Administrator at Texas College. He served as a professor in the Graduate School of Education, Prairie View AM University. He also served as the Vice President and Interim President at Wiley College, Marshall, Texas.
Bishop Houston has served the church is many capacities such as Sunday School Superintendent for Texas Northeast Jurisdiction, Director of Education for the Church of God in Christ, Incorporated. Bishop Houston has also served as Pastor of the Sunset Church of God in Christ, Texarkana, Texas and the Jones Valley Church of God in Christ, Tyler, Texas.
Bishop Houston is a member of numerous civic, religious and professional organizations.
Bishop Houston is married to Mrs. Lillian Scott-Houston, also a graduate of Texas College.
